Waikerie Clifftop Walk, Riverland South Australia

Whatever time of day you choose to take this walk you will be rewarded with stunning views of the River Murray & Wetlands.

I do however, recommend the magical times of sunrise & just before dusk. Keep an eye out for brilliant flashes amongst the trees for sightings of Rosella’s (parrots) & other native birds.

This glorious walk can be accessed at the base of the cliffs via a stair way near the ferry.

If you are looking for a less challenging start you can park in Goodchild St & take the ramp over the pipeline & follow the clifftop all the way to the Sturt Highway.

Once you reach the highway there are lots of options to enjoy a snack, meal coffee or purchase souvenirs.

You will firstly come across the Newland Bakery take a seat at a picnic table outside & enjoy your meal or just a refreshing drink & enjoy the scenery.

The View Point Cafe Service Station  is not just a place to buy fuel it offers a fabulous deck to enjoy meals & refreshments whilst drinking in the views.

To obtain more information about the area whilst having a coffee call into the Visitor Information Centre which also has a lovely outside deck to enjoy views of the River Murray & Holder area. It features arts, crafts as well as local produce & souvenirs, showcasing local artists & framed photos for sale.

For a gourmet option call into Illalangi this  tiny shop front  hides a big heart & a wealth of locally grown & produced gourmet foods. 

If you are looking for a guided walk with knowledgeable locals during the month of May. Why not join the Waikerie District Historical Society.  You can soak up local information & the glorious views. At the same time, meet other visitors travelling the district & have a chat with a local  who has a passion for their own backyard.
